Facilities

The students of Materials Science and Engineering program conduct their research in state-of-the-art facilities of the University of Houston as a whole. These include the Nanofabrication Facility, Biomedical Engineering Research Core Laboratory, Materials Characterization Facility, Center for Advance Materials Facilities and many individual faculty laboratories.

These facilities house numerous modern synthesis, processing, testing and characterization tools needed for today’s state-of-the-art materials research. These include Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Atom Probe Microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy, Focused Ion Beam System, Magnetron Sputtering, E-beam deposition, Chemical Vapor Deposition, Reactive Ion Etching, etc.

Center for Advanced Materials

The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) develops new materials leading to technologies of importance to the nation’s space program in its industry-academia-government partnership, and moves these and other materials advances into the commercial sector for economic and social benefit.

Materials Characterization Facility

The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) is part of the Texas Center for Superconductivity of the University of Houston (TcSUH). It specializes in micro-chemical/structural characterization of solid state materials by x-ray and electron beam techniques.

UH Nanofabrication Facility

The University of Houston Nanofabrication Facility developed in cooperation with the Alliance for NanoHealth is a state-of-the-art cleanroom research facility equipped with an extensive toolset of nano/micro device prototyping and characterization.
