Because of their size, these very small particles have unique properties that our faculty leverage to create fluorescent biological labels, deliver drugs, detect pathogens, engineer biomaterials, design environmentally friendlier plastics and other forms of hydrocarbons, develop coatings with special thermal properties, design new polymer assemblies, and many others. The field of bio- and nanomaterials is a cornerstone of the materials program in our College.
